Non-Pharmacotherapy for NAS
Published by Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group and International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists

Summary
Connie Teal, DNP, RNC-NIC, APRN-CNS, WCC will conduct a 1-hour knowledge-based continuing education webinar program. The number of pregnant women with substance abuse is growing as well as the number of babies with a diagnosis of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). Most babies with NAS receive pharmacologic treatment which can have its risks for baby and mother. There is evidence that non-pharmacologic interventions can help premature infants but very little is written about using these interventions with babies with NAS. This webinar presentation will discuss the benefits of non-pharmacologic therapy and its affect on the length of pharmacologic therapy and the overall length of stay for these patients.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe 3 ways that drugs influence an infant after delivery.
2. Identify 5 signs of withdrawal from drugs.
3. Discuss the negative effects of pharmacologic therapy on baby and mother.
4. List 5 non-pharmacologic interventions used to treat NAS.
